Summary

There are some ways to enable users to access Confluence without the need to grant them a product license. In this article, you'll learn how to use the Jira Service Management integration to provide users with access to a Confluence space without assigning them a Confluence license.

Solution

Disable Anonymous access and enable JSM access in Confluence Administration

  1. Invite a user to your site without providing app access.

  2. Disable Anonymous access Confluence Administration Global Permissions.

  3. Enable JSM access in Confluence Administration Global Permissions.

  4. Allow anonymous users in the relevant space.

You can test this by logging in with the user account created in step 1. The user will be able to access the spaces of step 4, where anonymous access was enabled..

With this method, you are still protecting Confluence from external access. Only users added to the site will have access to it, and there's no need to link the space to a JSM project.
