Summary

When trying to migrate from one user management to another (e.g. from the JIRA user directory to Active Directory), it may be required to change the username so that it matches the one in the target user directory.

Solution

By following this procedure, the LDAP users will be "merged" to the previously available JIRA users:

  • rename the users in JIRA to match the LDAP username

  • make sure that the changes are synchronized in Bitbucket Server

  • add the LDAP user directory in Bitbucket Server

  • disable the JIRA user directory (in order to disable the JIRA user directory, you'll need to log-in with a user that is not authenticated through it).

Notes: There is an open request to provide the ability to migrate users across directories BSERV-5195 - Add ability to Migrate Users from one directory to another.
