GIT client not found error during Bitbucket server installation

Platform Notice: Data Center Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the Data Center platform.

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Data Center KBs for non-Data-Center-specific features may also work for Server versions of the product, however they have not been tested. Support for Server* products ended on February 15th 2024. Symptoms

The following appears when accessing Bitbucket Server through the browser:

1 2 3 4 5 A fatal error has occurred   The following problem occurred which prevents Atlassian Bitbucket Server from starting correctly:   bitbucket.git.notfound[Bitbucket Server, 1.7.6, 1.8.4.3]

Cause

Bitbucket Server require Git command-line client to be installed first as stated in the following documentation:

Resolution

Install Git command-line client before starting up Bitbucket Server instance.
