Configuring the Mail Server to Use Gmail in Bitbucket Server

Platform Notice: Data Center Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the Data Center platform.

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Data Center KBs for non-Data-Center-specific features may also work for Server versions of the product, however they have not been tested. Support for Server* products ended on February 15th 2024. Summary

You can refer to this KB when you want to configure a Gmail Account for Mail Notifications in Bitbucket Server.

Solution

Go to the Mail server configuration in the Administration page.

Configure according to your needs:

Hostname: smtp.gmail.com

Port: 587

Username: <your_email>@gmail.com

Password: ********

Always use SSL/TLS: Yes

E-mail From: <your_email>@gmail.com

2FA enabled for the Gmail user

Notice that if the Gmail user has 2-step verification enabled, he/she will need to generate a password for an application (in this case Bitbucket Server) and use this application password - not the account password. Please refer to the guide below for more information:
