How To Archive Repositories

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

There is no built-in feature in Bitbucket Cloud to archive repositories. Use a project to store inactive repositories. Configure project permissions, giving only workspace administrators access to the project. This will limit who has access to repositories moved into the archive project.

We have an open feature request to mark repositories as "archived" or "inactive

Solution

Create a new project called "Archives" and add a description.

Add the "Administrators" as the only group with access to the project.

  • Use the two filters next to the search box to ensure only the "Administrators" group can access the project.

Move any inactive repository to the project from the project overview.
