"A user with that username already exists" error while signing up in Bitbucket Cloud

Summary

When signing up for a new account in Bitbucket Cloud, the user needs to mandatorily specify the username. The user gets the below error when they sign up:

1 A user with that username already exists

Solution

The reason why this error message showed up is that all usernames in Bitbucket Cloud need to be unique from other existing users on the platform, this includes users from different workspaces. The error occurs when the specified username has been used by any other user in the Bitbucket Cloud. 

The user needs to enter the unique username until the specified error no longer occurs for successfully signing up for the new user account in Bitbucket Cloud.
