How to use commit and push task to Github Repositories under Bamboo Deployment Projects.

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Summary

Currently Bamboo does not allow repository commit and push task to Github linked repositories similar to Bitbucket.

When the User tries to create a repository commit and push task under a Deployment Project environment, even if the Github repository is present under linked repositories, It will not be available for commit and push task.

Environment

Any version of Bamboo, Issue seen in 8.1.1.

Diagnosis

  • In the Linked repositories of Bamboo link a Github repository.

  • For a Deployment Project, edit the Environment and try to add repository commit and repository push task.

  • Github repository will not be displayed under the repository dropdown and the below screen with supported repository will be displayed.

Cause

This is basically a feature limitation on Bamboo where it does not treat Github repositories similar way as Bitbucket repositories.

Solution

The solution is very simple, delink the Github repositories and relink them as GIT repository under linked repositories, this should resolve the Issue.
