Email received showing wiki markups in plain text

Diagnosis

The automation rule is using the Send Email action, and the Content part includes a text type field (such as the description field), referred to by a smart value, for example {{issue.description}}

The text field of the Jira issue from which the email was sent contains formatting (color, bold, quote...)

Content with formatting

Cause

When referring to a text field in a smart value using the syntax {{issue.description}} (or {{issue.customfield_id}} ), the content of the text field will be rendered as plain text in the email sent from the rule, including the wiki markups.

To make sure that the wiki markups are rendered as HTML in the email, we need to append .html at the end of the smart value.

Solution

Edit the smart value used in the Content of the the email so that .html is added at the end (for example {{issue.customfield_id.html}})

Edit smart value in the content section

The text field will now be properly rendered in the email in HTML format:
