Integrate Jira Cloud with Microsoft Teams

Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams gives your team a shared view of Jira projects so you can collaborate and action issues without leaving Teams. Streamline your workflow with custom, personal notifications, link previews, and the functionality to create, search, and update Jira issues—all within Teams.

Install the Jira Cloud app

  1. Select 'Apps' from the left vertical toolbar

  2. Enter 'Jira Cloud' in the Apps search bar

  3. Find the 'Jira Cloud' app and select 'Add'

  4. Select 'Add for me' from the drop-down menu in the app modal

  5. Follow the sign in prompts to complete your installation

Jira Cloud features

You can access these features when your Jira Cloud installation is complete.

  • Personal notifications - Customize your notifications to get instant project updates

  • Link previews - View real-time project information and status updates

  • Action Jira issues - View, assign, comment on, and watch issues directly in Teams

  • Quick commands - Find issues, configure notifications, and request support using prompts

Setup personal notifications

  1. Select 'Jira Cloud' from the left vertical toolbar

  2. Enter Notifications in the Jira Cloud chat

  3. Jira Cloud will automatically setup default personal notifications

  4. Select 'Change notifications' to adjust your notification preferences

  5. Select 'Save notifications'

Once you've setup personal notifications in Teams, you can turn off or adjust email notifications in Jira. 

Navigate to your avatar on the top left menu in Jira and select 'Notifications' and then 'Project and issue notifications' to adjust your email notification preferences. 

Add a Jira Cloud tab to a team or channel chat

  1. Select the '+' icon on the top right of the chat menu

  2. Search and select 'Jira Cloud'

  3. Select your Jira Cloud site from the drop-down menu

  4. Select your saved filter from the drop-down menu

  5. Select 'Save'

You'll see a Jira Cloud tab appear in the chat menu. In this tab view, you can access Jira issues you've recently viewed, worked on, or been assigned to.

Add Jira Cloud to a meeting

  1. Select 'Calendar' on the left toolbar, then select '+ New meeting'

  2. Enter your meeting details and select 'Send'

  3. Open the meeting and select the '+' icon from the menu

  4. Search and select 'Jira Cloud'

  5. Select your Jira Cloud site, then select 'Save'

You'll see a Jira Cloud tab appear in the meeting invite and chat menu. In this tab view, you can access Jira issues you've recently viewed, worked on, or been assigned to.

Setup notifications in a team, channel or meeting chat

  1. Add Jira Cloud to the team, channel or meeting chat

  2. Enter ‘@Jira Cloud’, select ‘Jira Cloud’ from suggestions then enter Notifications

  3. This command will trigger the setup for channel notifications

  4. Follow the prompts to select your site and project to adjust your notifications preferences

Once you've setup personal notifications in Teams, you can turn off or adjust email notifications in Jira.

Navigate to your avatar on the top left menu in Jira and select ‘Notifications' and then 'Project and issue notifications'. Scroll down and select 'Add project notifications’ to select your project and adjust your notification preferences.

Create and search for issues in Teams

  1. Navigate to your team, channel or meeting chat

  2. Select the 'Jira Cloud' tab on the top right of the chat menu

  3. Select 'Create issue' and follow the prompts to create an issue

  4. Enter a search phrase or issue key into the search bar to find an issue

Preview and action issues in Teams

  1. Share a Jira issue link in a team, channel or meeting chat

  2. Sign in to your Atlassian account to view the full link preview

  3. The link will display the issue status, type, assignee and priority

  4. Select 'Comment', 'Edit' or 'Open in Jira' to action the issue in Teams

For a seamless experience, Jira Cloud installs in chats and channels when someone shares a preview link.

Turn off the auto-installation feature when sharing a Jira link by selecting ‘x' when the preview of the link is displayed. You’ll be able to share a standard Jira link without triggering auto-installation in the chat.

Sign out of your Atlassian account

Uninstall the Jira Cloud app

  1. Find Jira Cloud in the left vertical toolbar

  2. Secondary click on the Jira Cloud icon

  3. Select 'Uninstall'

  4. Select 'Remove' to uninstall Jira Cloud

Privacy considerations

Your data and personal information are encrypted for added security. Jira Cloud does not listen to conversations in chats or channels. Jira Cloud is activated only with the ‘@Jira Cloud’ prompt followed by a Command.
