Unable to delete validator from Jira workflow transition

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.

Summary

The delete option for a validator in a draft workflow is grayed out and can't be used.

Invalid field in workflow validators

The corresponding Workflow has a validator set for a deleted field. Since the field has already been deleted, it displays the field attributes instead of the Validator details, and the options are grayed out.

Delete invalid workflow field validators

Follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Work itemsWorkflows

  2. Make a copy of the current workflow by selecting Copy

  3. Edit the copied workflow and remove the transition

  4. Create the transition again

  5. Publish the workflow once the changes are made

  6. Navigate to Project SettingsWorkflowsAdd WorkflowAdd existing and select the copied workflow

  7. Select Next to choose the Work item type(s) to associate it with

Note: We recommend copying the workflow as there are certain limitations when editing an active workflow, including:

  • It is not possible to edit the workflow name (only the description) if a workflow is active

  • Workflow steps can't be deleted

  • A step's associated Status can't be edited

  • If a step has no outgoing transitions (Global transitions are not considered), it cannot have any new outgoing transitions added

  • A step's "Step ID" can't be changed
