Original Estimate field not available in Jira Plan (Advanced Roadmaps)
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.
Summary
In a Jira Plan (formerly known as Advanced Roadmaps), the Original estimate field isn't listed, and doesn't appear in the available fields to show in the plan. Instead, the Estimate field appears.
Jira Plans don't use Original Estimate.
Plans don't reference the "Original Estimate" field. In Plans, the "Estimates (h/d)" field maps to "Time remaining" which can be found in the "Time tracking" section of any Jira work item.
The reason we use the Remaining Estimate rather than the Original estimate is, when you plan future sprints and review progress on a work item, you are looking at the work remaining over the work completed. If we used the Original Estimate field, you would constantly be planning for the original scope of work rather than what work remains. The behavior here is intended behavior with the known trade-off that the sprint allocation will appear to reduce as time is logged. It's important that we use the remaining estimate because it's most relevant to the future planning of the remaining work.
For example, consider an issue that was originally estimated at 16 hours and had 4 hours logged in a past sprint. When planning the remainder of that work into a future sprint, it's essential to plan it in the context of the remaining estimate (12 hours) rather than the total original estimate of 16 hours. Our solutions are generally optimized for Future planning over in-flight tracking, so this was the preferred trade-off.
See the screenshots below for examples of how this estimate tracking displays in Plan view vs work item view:

If you wish to update the Original estimate field when the Estimates field is updated in a Plan or vice-versa, you can explore automation options to do so.
