Can't set Due Date field in Jira project

Summary

User can edit all the fields present in the issue layout except for the due date, when you click on the due date field, it displays the grey text "None" but doesn't perform any action.

Diagnosis

User won't be able to edit the due date field as it's greyed out and nothing can be selected.

Cause

You need the Schedule Issues project permission to populate the date in the Due date field in Jira.

Solution

The due date field must be added to the edit screen for the issue type and the user must have the schedule issues permission.
