Summary
Learn how to fix Jira error, "The requested board cannot be viewed because it either does not exist or you do not have permission to view it."
Solution
This error is caused by one of two reasons:
The board is located in a project that you don't have access permissions to.
The board is located on another user's profile, and the board filter is not shared with you.
To determine which is the cause:
Go to the board.
Select ... (More settings) > Configure board.
Navigate to the General tab and check the Location drop-down.
Board is located on a project
The affected user may not have permission to browse this project.
Navigate to the project.
Select ⚙️Project Settings > Permissions.
Ensure the Browse Projects permission is granted to all affected users.
Board is located on a user profile
You can choose whether you'd like to move the board to a project, or share the filter with the affected user(s).
Generally, it's easier and more sustainable to relocate the board to its associated project:
Go to the board.
Select ... (More settings) > Configure board.
In the Location drop down, search for and choose the project.
Please see our documentation on managing shared filters if you'd prefer to keep the board on the user's profile, or if you're unsure how to correct the filter shares.
