Summary

When trying to delete a Jira Align Organizational Hierarchy it fails as it states that there are still users associated with that organization.

Diagnosis

When trying to delete an Organizational Hierarchy from Jira Align it fails as it states that there are still users associated with it, although filtering for that organization in the 'people' section of the admin page, Align throws a message that there are no users associated with that organization.

Cause

The scenario occurs when one or more users are part of an Organizational Hierarchy that we are trying to delete e.g. "organization A", but they are "inactive" so you did not see them when searching.

Solution

  1. Navigate to the Settings >Setup > Organization Structures.

  2. Search by Organization name or id.

  3. Click on the Org Name, the slide panel pops up.

  4. Click on Delete.

Find deactivated users and remove them from the organization to allow the deletion.

  1. Navigate to Settings > People.

  2. On the upper right side, click on "Apply Filters" to add the filter "Enterprise Hierarchy" e.g. "organization A"

  3. Look for "Deactivated" and set that to yes.

  4. The list of Deactivated users that belong to the Organizational Hierarchy is displayed.

  5. Click on the "Deactivated user(s)", and the slide panel pops up.

  6. Move the user to a different Enterprise hierarchy and save the change.

  7. Repeat the same steps used to Delete the organization Structure.
