Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

Occasionally, the Insert Elements ("+") fails to insert macro on Confluence page via the View More section on Confluence editor.

When you insert a macro, nothing happens. The macro code is not inserted into the page.

Environment

Diagnosis

  • There are no visible errors.

  • No failures on Browser DevTools

Cause

Operating Systems Accessibility settings to reduce motion on web browsers are interfering with Media Queries.

Media queries are a key part of responsive web design, as theyallow you to create different layouts depending on the size of the viewport, but they can also be used to detect other things about the environment your site is running on, for example whether the user is using a touchscreen rather than a mouse.

Solution

Change the settings at the OS level to fix this issue mentioned above.

  • macOS: System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > check/uncheck Reduce Motion,

  • Windows 11: Start > Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > toggle Animation Effects.

  • Windows 10: Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > toggle Show animations in Windows.
