“Your site admin must authorize this app" error in Atlassian Cloud apps
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.
Summary
Atlassian Cloud apps require site admin approval before any third-party or OAuth apps can access user data. If the app is not authorized, users will see the following error and cannot proceed:
“Your site admin must authorize this app for the site <instance-name>.atlassian.net before the app can access your account.”
Environment
Cloud versions of Confluence, Jira, and/or Jira Service Management
Third-party App or OAuth (3LO) app integration
Solution
This error means the app is not yet approved for your Atlassian Cloud Product. A site admin must explicitly authorize it before you (or anyone else) can use it with your account.
If you are not a site admin
Contact your site admin
Share the error message and the name of the app you are trying to use.
Ask them to review and authorize the app for your site.
If you are the site admin
Authorize the app
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Apps.
Under Sites in the sidebar, you will see a list of site names. Select the site name for the app where you’ve made the installation.
From the sidebar, select Connected apps.
If the app does not appear
Ensure the user is using the correct Atlassian account and site/product.
If you are developing an integration, confirm your OAuth app is configured correctly and requesting the right scopes.
Additional Information
For more details, see Atlassian’s documentation on Manage your organization's Marketplace and third-party apps | Atlassian Support and OAuth 2.0 (3LO) apps.
If issues persist, provide your site admin with the error message and ask them to check the Connected apps section in Admin Hub.
We have a feature request to enhance this functionality: CLOUD-11676 - Ability to pre-approve the apps that can be installed by users.
